Antique Silver Tealight Holder for Mothers’ Day

March 16, 2011

I’m a bit wary of recommending household items for Mothers’ Day – puts me in mind of my dad buying my mum a microwave one Christmas – but no one could argue with this lovely antique silver tealight holder, surely?

It has a heart motif on either side, a distressed finish, and a wire handle for hanging if desired. Plus each one is slightly different due to the handmade process. Lovely.

Hearts for the home

January 26, 2011

Yes, Valentine’s Day is on its way so I’ve picked out a few “hearty” home items.

I really like this quadruple cream metal heart hook. Beaufiful to look at and practical for tidying all that clutter. You could even paint names on and encourage your children to hang their stuff on their own peg.

I love things that are beautiful as well as useful and this heart-shaped memo holder fits the bill.

Great for holding special notes, photos or momentos or – and I love this idea – for using as place card holders.

Candles are – as I’m sure you know – essential for romantic atmosphere and I particularly love these East of India creamy vanilla candles. They come in a tin with awooden heart on the lid. Yummy.

A gorgeous gift for Valentine’s Day

January 19, 2011

I must admit I felt a bit bewildered when faced with a rack of pink and red cards in the newsagents this morning. My first thought was Christmas, but then I realised it couldn’t be that… no, it’s Valentine’s Day. Just a few short weeks away.

If you’re stuck for an original gift idea, I love this cream painted wooden keepsake box with cut out heart shaped photo frame on lid. You could put in a photo of the one you love and fill the box with something you know will make them happy. Chocolates. Love notes. Diamonds. Use your imagination…

Cheer up blue Monday

January 17, 2011

Today is apparently the most depressing day of the year. Not sure how that’s quantified, but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if it was true… the weather is miserable again and there’s still a week until pay day…

So if you need cheering up, you could do a lot worse than this wonderful ceramic mug from East of India. It’s inscribed with “Laugh often, love much, live well” and comes in a gift box.

Sparkly stocking fillers

December 15, 2010

It’s great to get a big Christmas gift, something you’ve been wanting all year, but it’s equally fun to have lots of little things to open. Here are a few of our favourites.

This gorgeous Lisbeth Dahl silver purse is embellished with stripes of silver sequins and glass beads on the front and glass beads on the back. It has a zip fastening and is lined with silver fabric and would be equally appreciated by tweens, teens or (alleged) grown-ups.

This embroidered butterfly heart mirror is one of those things that are so handy to have in your handbag, but which you probably never remember to buy for yourself.

This beautiful clear glass tealight holder with a metal handle with silver and clear bead detail is ideal for indoor or outdoor use. Perfect for adding a bit of atmosphere to Christmas evenings.

Last minute gift idea: Cupcake Candle Holders

December 8, 2010

Each Christmas, I try to have a few extra gifts in and wrapped just in case of unexpected visits (or expected visits with unexpected gifts) from friends.

I’d love to receive these cute Cupcake Candle Holders and I know most of my friends would too. They cost just £12.95.

Warm up winter with a collection of candles

November 3, 2010

The leaves are falling off the trees (“Spring is on its way!” my 6-year-old said yesterday. Well, yeah. But don’t hold your breath.), the nights are drawing in and, if the weather reports are accurate, a long, hard winter is ahead.

But it’s not all doom and gloom, because the best thing about winter is snuggling up indoors with trashy TV, Bailey’s Irish Cream and candles. Lots of candles.

The other great thing about winter is, of course, Christmas and this spice candle in a tin with wooden heart on lid is perfect for getting you in the Christmas spirit (if the Bailey’s hasn’t got you there already).

Candles also make great gifts and this Cup Cake candle is my favourite. The candle is cute and the box is inscribed with the words “Live life in the moment and make it so beautiful that it is worth remembering”. Just the thing to take you through to spring. It’s on its way, you know.
